Spinning/textiles were a BIG THING in prewar Japan, with a lot of labor issues similar to the ones in post-Industrial Revolution England--there was a famous exposé of women's working conditions in spinning mills called Joko Aishi by Hosoi Wakizo, in [looks it up] 1925. Lots of labor history involved.
