Ophthalmology is an interesting choice! It seems like many of the other doctors in this series either aimed for or ended up in obstetrics and gynecology, as I understand was also common for many other early female medical professionals here in the States. I wonder if the eye was seen as a sufficiently non-sexual body part to specialize in for interested women?
