I wish there was more scholarly work in general doing, I don't know, comparative women's studies? across countries in similar eras. I wrote a very short Japanese article for a friend's journal a while back which was basically a self-indulgent comparison of Japanese and UK women writers in the 1930s or so (Viscountess Rhondda and Hasegawa Shigure, Vera Brittain and Sata Ineko, Naomi Mitchison and Miyamoto Yuriko etc. etc.); I wish somebody would actually dig into this academically, it would be so interesting.
